Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal.

162.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the up to date position regarding proposals to drain and re-open the Ballinamore-Ballyconnell link canal and if this waterway is included in the EEC survey approved for the Erne catchment area.

The Commissioners of Public Works are carrying out a study of the Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal to assess the feasibility of restoring it for navigation and to determine the implications this would have on the drainage of the area.

The field survey of the main line of the canal has been completed, except for the Border stretches, and the collection of hydrometric data is continuing.

The canal is being considered in the study of the Erne catchment area jointly commissioned by the Irish and British Governments with the agreement and participation of the EEC.
