Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Free Electricity Allowances.

214.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the exorbitant cost of electricity, he will extend the free electricity allowance, or a similar concession, to all the tenants of the lowcost National Building Agency housing scheme in Tipperary and Cahir, County Tipperary.

An extension of this scheme in the manner suggested by the Deputy is not contemplated.

215.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will extend the free electricity scheme to include pensioners of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs who, but for the source of their pension, meet the terms of the scheme; and the cost of making this change.

Any extension of this scheme would be a matter for consideration in the context of the annual budget. The annual cost of making the change proposed is estimated at approximately £90,000.
