Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Information on Grants and Assistance.

236.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will outline the policy of his Department to assist members of the public to avail of any grants and assistance available from his Department and the procedures used towards this end.

My Department operate no grant or assistance schemes for the general public. However, they maintain direct contact with a number of persons entitled to pensions arising out of death or injury while serving on Irish ships during World War II. Certain aids available to Irish seamen or crew members of Irish ships who encounter difficulty abroad are well known to the limited class of persons affected and the associated arrangements are administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
