Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Milling and Pigmeat Industries.

286.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if there is an excess capacity in our milling and pigmeat processing industries and if an estimate has been made of the viability of each of these industries in their present structure.

There is no evidence to suggest that there is excess capacity in the provender milling or pig processing industries and these industries can be regarded as being viable in their present structure. The flour milling industry itself has been engaged on a rationalisation and modernisation programme for a number of years with a view to ensuring its continued viability.
