Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - European Centre in Venice.

338.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the reasons for the Government's failure to sponsor fellowships to be tenable at the European Centre in Venice under the "pro Venetia Viva" programme of the Council of Europe.

I feel that the objectives of the "pro Venetia Viva" Foundation are admirable and worthy of support. While the question of providing finance to enable Irish craftsmen to study at the foundation's European centre for training craftsmen in the conservation of the architectural heritage is under consideration in the Departments concerned as yet no decision has been taken on the matter. In this consideration, due account will of course have to be taken of the specific needs of Irish craftsmen and the extent to which they would be met by the courses currently being provided at the centre.
