Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Appointment of Headmasters.

46.

asked the Minister for Education the number of teachers appointed as headmasters in four-teacher schools with less than four years experience over the past 10 years.

Rule 73 of the Rules and Regulations for National Schools provides that, to be eligible for appointment to a school of the size mentioned in the question from the Deputy, the teacher should, inter alia, have given at least five years' service. Approval for any appointment not in accordance with such requirement would only have been given on an exceptional basis on rare occasions related to particular circumstances and a list of such appointments has not been kept. I am not aware of any case of a teacher with less than 4 years' service being appointed to such a post.
