Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

57.

asked the Minister for Education the number, names and locations of the schools which have (1) applied for, (2) received sanction for appointment of remedial teachers on an ex-quota basis as and from September 1979 and if he will make a statement on the matter.

58.

asked the Minister for Education the number of remedial teachers appointed ex-quota in the current school year as a result of his recent initiative in this area.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 58 together.

The number of applications received for appointment of remedial teachers under the terms of Circular Letter No. 33/79 in second-level schools was as follows: Secondary Schools, 155; Vocational Education Committees, 36; Comprehensive and Community schools, 16.

The number of teachers appointed in the case of each category of school was as follows: Secondary Schools, 36; Vocational Schools, 58; Comprehensive and Community schools, 9.

It would not be in accordance with normal procedure to give the names of the individual schools.
