Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin Teacher-Pupil Ratio

87.

asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the most recent figure for the teacher-pupil ratio in the Dublin city primary school system, the teacher-pupil ratio for each of the past five years, and the plans, if any, to reduce the ratio.

The information requested as at 30 September each year is as follows: 1973—34.3; 1974—33.7; 1975—33.4; 1976—33.7; 1977—33.1; 1978—31.6;

The pupil-teacher ratio nationally was improved on three separate occasions in the last year-and-a-half. It is my intention to continue to effect further improvement as rapidly as the circumstances allow.
