Vol. 318 No. 1

Written Answers. - Insurance Benefit Claims.

558.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of claims made in the past year for insurance benefit in respect of which his Department has held that the relevant insurance contributions have not been made.

Statistics as to the number of claims for social insurance benefits in which the relevant insurance contributions have not been paid are not maintained by my Department. However, in the event of a claim for any benefit or pension under the Social Welfare Acts, credit is allowed for all outstanding social insurance contributions due at the date of the claim. In the circumstances, no person is disqualified for payment solely on the grounds that contributions due have not been paid by the employer.
