Vol. 318 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discussion Document on Energy.

29.

andMr. Quinn asked the Minister for Energy if the Government's White Paper, “Energy Ireland”, published in July 1978, is currently under review, if so, if he would make a statement outlining the extent and nature of that review and if such a review will take account of recent developments in energy costs and energy consumption.

The establishment of the Department of Energy is in itself an indication of the importance which the Government attach to recent developments in energy costs and energy consumption.

As Minister for Energy I shall be reviewing all aspects of our energy problems and in doing so shall obviously take into account significant developments in both the cost and consumption of energy which have taken place since the publication of the "Energy-Ireland" discussion document in July 1978.

While there are at present no plans in hands for publication of a revised version of the discussion document I am not ruling out the possibility of further Government publications relating to our energy problems in the future.
