Vol. 318 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Urban Environmental Hazards.

8.

asked the Taoiseach if the National Board for Science and Technology have a programme of research to evaluate urban environmental hazards in relation to (1) air pollution, (2) noise pollution and (3) damage to buildings and property by vibrations of heavy traffic, if not, if he will request the board to establish such a programme.

The NBST are currently supporting a broad programme of research activities in environmental sciences, which covers areas (1) and (2) of the Deputy's question. Area (3) is not yet a priority area in the board's programme.

In view of the fact that the National Board for Science and Technology's budget is being cut by 20 per cent for the current year could the Taoiseach say whether this programme will now be at risk?

The budget makes provision for the continuance of this programme.

Question No. 9 has been postponed until next Tuesday.
