asked the Minister for Finance the cost in (i) 1980, and (ii) a full year of allowing widows and unmarried parents the married person's allowance (a) if living alone (widows) and (b) with dependants.

Assuming that the question relates to the granting of the married allowance to (a) a widowed person without dependent children and (b) a person entitled to the one-parent allowance, the cost (estimated by reference to the position for the current year) would be as follows:
