Vol. 318 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Expenditure.

11.

asked the Taoiseach the percentage of our GNP consumed by the Government in State expenditure for each of the years 1970 to 1979 inclusive and the amount of current and capital expenditure as a percentage of GNP for each year.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing, for each year 1970 to 1978, total central Government expenditure expressed as a percentage of gross national product at market prices, distinguishing current and capital expenditure. The figures are based on national accounts concepts and definitions. Total expenditure covers direct expenditure on all goods and services, together with subsidies, transfers etc. to other sectors of the economy.

Corresponding information for 1979 is not yet available.

Following is the statement:—

Total central government expenditure expressed as a percentage of gross national product at current market prices.
