Vol. 318 No. 9

Written Answers. - Slaughtering Premises Standards.

337.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason similar standards are not applied to slaughtering premises producing meat for the home market as to those involved in the export market.

Slaughtering premises catering for the export market are governed by the Agricultural Produce (Fresh Meat) Acts and certain EEC legislation and operate under the supervision of my Department. Usually the standards required for export premises reflect the requirements of importing countries. Premises catering for the home market are governed by the Public Health Acts and are the responsibility of the local authority concerned.
