Vol. 318 No. 9

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

355.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants presently awaiting telephone service in south-west Cork and the number of telephone installations for 1980.

There are about 1,400 waiting applicants. The number of installations planned for 1980 is about 900.

356.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applications for telephone service made by old age pensioners under the free rental scheme and the number of installations made to date.

The numbers are 8,300 and 2,100.

357.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a new telephone service or an extension from his existing business number will be provided for an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin.

Arrangements to provide an external extension within the next two months are already in train. It is unlikely that the underground cabling works, on which provision of an exchange line is dependent, will be carried out before next year.
