Vol. 318 No. 9

Written Answers. - Primary Education Finance.

11.

asked the Minister for Education if he has satisfied himself that the proportion of finance allocated to primary level education is sufficient in comparison to other levels of education, and the proposals, if any, to improve the situation.

In connection with financial provision made in the annual Estimates for the Public Services for the Education Group of Votes it has been my aim, and that of the Government, to give special attention to the needs of the primary school section and, in particular, to treat the reduction of the pupil-teacher ratio in primary schools as a top priority. I consider that this aim is satisfactorily reflected in the provision made in the 1980 Estimate.
