Vol. 318 No. 9

Written Answers. - Youth Officers.

17.

asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the present position regarding the provision of full-time youth officers for voluntary organisations, the number appointed to date and the groups to which these appointments were made.

Under my Department's development officer scheme 100 grants were approved for voluntary organisations to assist them in employing full-time officers. To date 33 appointments have been made by youth organisations, three by sporting organisations and 24 by other voluntary bodies. I anticipate that appointments will be made in the near future in the remaining 40 cases for which grants have been approved.

A list of the organisations which have already made appointments will, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, be circulated with the Official Report.
