asked the Minister for Finance, the estimated number of self-employed persons in the State liable for income tax in 1980 and the estimated number of such persons with earnings in excess of £8,000 per annum.

The number of self-employed persons liable for income tax in 1980 was estimated prior to the budget to be in the region of 85,000. As a result of the provisions of the budget this number will be reduced to 77,000.

The number with earnings in excess of £8,000 per annum is estimated to be 15,000.
