Vol. 318 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cattle and Sheep Diseases.

327.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of reported outbreaks of the disease ergot in cattle in the past five years, and if this is a notifiable disease.

328.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of outbreaks in recent years of the highly contagious sheep disease orf, and if this is a compulsorily notifiable disease.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 327 and 328 together.

Neither orf nor ergot poisoning are compulsorily notifiable to my Department and official statistics of numbers of outbreaks are not available. Very few cases have been reported in recent years.
