Vol. 318 No. 9

Written Answers. - Potato Imports.

329.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the tonnage of potatoes imported to Ireland for human consumption in 1979 and if such imports pose a threat of disease to Irish potato production.

Figures available from the Central Statistics Office indicate that imports of potatoes in the period January to September 1979 amounted to 2,181 tonnes, of which approximately 700 tonnes were seed potatoes. Figures for the final three months of the year are not yet available. All imports of potatoes are subject to plant health controls to guard against the introduction of diseases or pests.
