asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the latest annual figures for fish sold into intervention, the species and details of the methods of disposal under the following headings: (1) the amount put into cold storage, (2) the amount converted into fishmeal, and (3) the amount dumped.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fish in Intervention.
As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report. Following is the statement:

Notes:
1. Small quantities were also disposed of as mink-food or pet-food.
2. The EEC intervention system for fishery products is operated by recognised producer organisations of fishermen who withdraw from sale fish which does not reach a certain price level according to species and grade and dispose of it subsequently for purposes other than human consumption. Fish is not sold to an official intervention agency as is the case with agricultural products.
3. Figures given are provisional and may be subject to slight adjustments. Quantities of herring withdrawn and methods of disposal are available in respect of only one producer's organisation.
