Vol. 318 No. 11

Written Answers. - Free Travel Benefit Scheme.

198.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will adjust the travel times of the free travel benefit scheme for recipients of disabled persons maintenance allowance or invalidity pension attending medical courses to more suitable hours for such courses.

Persons who are required to attend hospital for treatment may recoup their travel costs or have transport provided under the Health Acts provided they satisfy the appropriate means test. Recipients of disabled persons maintenance allowance who are attending rehabilitation courses are provided with special passes exempting them from the time restrictions applying to free travel at peak hours. In the circumstances I do not propose to amend the free travel scheme in the manner suggested.
