asked the Minister for Justice the Garda strength in (a) Waterford city and (b) County Waterford in each superintendent's area, in respect of 1970, 1975 and 1980, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Garda strength allocated to the Garda Districts in Waterford city and county on 25 April in each of the years 1970, 1975 and 1980 was as follows:—

Two inspectors and three gardaí from this strength are on temporary transfer outside the Waterford city and county area.

The number of gardaí assigned to particular areas is a matter primarily for the Garda authorities and the number is reviewed from time to time to take account of changing needs and circumstances.
