Vol. 320 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Strength.

221.

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of gardaí serving Dublin city and county and the number of these patrolling on foot.

The strength of the Garda Síochána allocated to stations in Dublin city and county on 31 March 1980 was 3,048.

The precise arrangements made for the allocation of manpower as between foot patrols and other duties in any particular area are matters for the Garda officers concerned. The number of gardaí on foot patrol in Dublin varies considerably from time to time and depends on factors such as the available resources, local circumstances, other demands for Garda services and the time of day or night. In any event it would be contrary to established practice to give details of the number of gardaí allocated to particular duties in any particular area at any particular time.
