Vol. 320 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Dublin Roads Improvement.

231.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the greatly increased traffic using the roads in County Dublin including Dún Laoghaire and that arising therefrom, the present condition of the roads in many parts of county Dublin and Dún Laoghaire is unable to bear this traffic, and if he will consult with the local authorities in these areas and discuss with them the possibility of an immediate increase in the allocation of money for road improvement and maintenance in the areas concerned.

I am aware of the needs of the roads in these areas and I am anxious that the maximum possible grants be made available for their maintenance and improvement within the resources available and having due regard to the requirements of other areas.

The grant allocations already notified to road authorities absorb the total of the moneys available to me for road grants in the current year.
