Vol. 320 No. 2

Written Answers. - Non-Teaching Staffs' Pension Scheme.

236.

asked the Minister for Education the progress made to date on agreeing and implementing the pension scheme for general workers in community and comprehensive schools and if it will benefit all such persons currently employed, even if they resign before the formal inauguration of the scheme.

Early finalisation of the terms of a pension scheme for the non-teaching staffs at community and comprehensive schools is anticipated.

It is proposed that all persons who are serving in a full-time capacity on the date of the introduction of the scheme will be given an option to enter the scheme or to remain outside it. However, it is not proposed that any person would be admitted to the pension scheme who would not have completed at least five years pensionable service on attaining the age of 65 years. Only persons serving on the date of the introduction of the scheme would be in a position to exercise an option to enter the scheme and accordingly benefit from its provisions.
