Vol. 320 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Information.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will issue a circular to taxpayers giving details of all entitlements, if the information given to taxpayers in income tax offices is taken from a daily newspaper on display, and the action he proposes to take to ensure proper information facilities are provided for taxpayers in this regard.

A full-page advertisement setting out the changes announced in the recent budget in so far as they affected PAYE was inserted in the four daily newspapers on 4 March 1980 and was repeated on 11 March 1980.

Following established practice a comprehensive leaflet has been prepared giving details of all allowances, deductions, reliefs and rates of tax for 1980-81 and is being printed. Supplies are expected next month. This leaflet will be available on request at all tax offices. The customary note drawing attention to its availability will appear on the revised notices of tax-free allowances for 1980-81, the issue of which will commence during next month. It is felt that these arrangements provide sufficient sources of information to ensure that taxpayers will be fully aware of their entitlement to relief.
