Vol. 320 No. 3

Written Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

207.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if recipients of unemployment benefit in Laytown, County Meath did not receive their cheques on time for the week ending 26 April 1980 and, if so, why.

Evidence of unemployment certified by the Garda on Tuesday, 22 April should have been delivered by post to the Employment Exchange, Drogheda, by Wednesday, 23 or at latest Thursday, 24 April. In fact it was not delivered until Friday, 25. As a result, the payment dockets, normally issued to postal claimants on Thursday could not be issued until Friday and were not received by the claimants until Monday 28 April.

My Department are arranging to have the reason for the delay in the arrival of the documentation at the local office investigated with a view to the prevention of a recurrence.

The Dáil adjourned at 5.10 p.m. until 10.30 a.m. on Friday, 2 May 1980.
