Vol. 320 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB in the Philippines.

14.

asked the Minister for Foregin Affairs if he received a report from the two bodies ESBOA/EUEW in connection with the ESB in the Philippines and, if so, the response, if any, made to that report and to the personnel who had sent it.

15.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline the extent of correspondence he has had with trade unions involved in the ESB and the work of the board in the Philippines, the number of letters he has received from the union ESBOA, and the number of replies issued in response to representations made by them on this matter.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 14 and 15 together.

On 9 March 1979, a copy of the report on the ESB and the Philippines, which was prepared by a delegation representing the ESB Officers Association, AUEW/TASS 1, Trócaire and the Irish Commission for Justice and Peace, was received in the office of my predecessor. This report was accompanied by a letter from the Director of Trócaire which was acknowledged on 12 March. No other copy of the report was received by my Department.

The conclusions and recommendations of the report were given careful consideration by my Department. As the Deputy will be aware, the participation of the ESB in the World Bank project in the Philippines ended some time ago, on the termination of the contract under which the board's services were provided.
