Vol. 321 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Economic Development Strategy.

3.

asked the Taoiseach if he will give details of the request by the Government to the National Economic and Social Council to prepare a fundamental review of the existing strategy for economic development; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government have asked the national Economic and Social Council to give their advice in relation to overall economic and social policy. This request to the council has been made in accordance with Articles 1 and 2 of the councils' constitution and terms of reference which provide that the National Economic and Social Council may advise the Government either on their own initiative or at the request of the Government.

Has any time limit been given to the council in this regard?

There is no particular time limit for this exercise but my information is that we should have the review shortly.
