Vol. 321 No. 10

Written Answers. - EEC Aid for West of Ireland.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his Department was requested by the European Commission to submit outline plans in respect of each of the following headings for assistance from the EEC under the proposed scheme of aid for the west of Ireland: (a) improvement of electricity, water and roads, (b) fencing and division of mountain and common land, (c) the establishment of training centres for farming, (d) provision of aid to group farming, (e) provision of aid to forestry on marginal land, (f) provision of a training centre for agricultural advisers, (g) improvement of marketing and processing facilities; and if so, if and when the outline plan was submitted in each case, if it has yet been approved by the Commission, and if he will circulate details of each outline plan with the official report.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the negative. The measures for improving agricultural structures in the west of Ireland which were recently adopted by the Council provide for the various actions covered by the measures to be carried out within the framework of a detailed programme to be drawn up by the Government and submitted to the Commission for approval. The programme is at present being prepared and will be submitted to the Commission as soon as possible.
