Vol. 321 No. 10

Written Answers. - Census Data.

336.

asked the Taoiseach if data exist from the 1971 census on the occupational background of prisoners serving sentences in penal institutions on the census date; if he will give such details, as are available for the prison institutions concerned; if prisoners will be enumerated in the forthcoming census; and how the data on them will be collected.

Information on the occupations of all persons was collected in the 1971 Census of Population but separate analysis by occupational groups of persons in institutions were not compiled and are not availible.

All persons, including prisoners in penal institutions, will be enumerated in the forthcoming 1981 census. In the case of institutions the responsibility for providing the information required on the census form will, as in previous censuses, rest with the person in charge of each institution.
