Epilepsy is a condition of such varied intensity that it is not possible to give precise figures. The number of persons presenting for treatment is about four per 1,000 of the population or about 13,500 persons.
Epilepsy is one of the prescribed long-term illnesses in respect of which drugs and medicines are provided free of charge. Patients covered by medical cards obtain their medication under the general medical service. Any person suffering from epilepsy who is not already benefiting from either of these schemes should contact his local health board office for assistance.
