Vol. 321 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widow's Pension Payment.

63.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when arrears of widows' pension will be paid to a person (details supplied), in County Dublin; and if he will expedite payment in this case.

A letter from the person concerned was received in my Department on 21 February 1980 stating that her widow's contributory pension order book was lost. A replacement pension book, effective from 29 February 1980, was issued on 26 February.

Before arrears could be calculated it was necessary to ascertain from the Department of Posts and Telegraphs the date of the last order cashed in the lost book. This information has since been obtained and a payable order in respect of arrears of pension for two weeks, namely 15 and 22 February 1980, has issued direct to the pensioner.

It appears that the person concerned is under the impression that she is also due payment in respect of the pay-day, 29 February 1980. It has, however, been confirmed by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs that the pension order in question has, in fact, been cashed.
