Vol. 321 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South-West Cork Harbours.

75.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will indicate the harbours and piers in south-west Cork due to receive State aid for improvements in the current year.

It is proposed to have carried out in the current year State-aided improvement works on fishery harbours and piers at the following centres, namely, Castletownbere, Ballycrovane, Travarra, Caherkeen, Schull and Oileán na gCaorach.

How much money is expected to be expended in the current year on this work?

In Castletownbere it is expected that half a million pounds will be spent this year. In the case of Oileán na gCaorach a 75 per cent State grant of £18,750 will be expended—that has been sanctioned in this case. In Ballycrovane, £5,550 has been sanctioned. In Travarra, £12,450 has been sanctioned. In Caherkeen, £2,250 has been sanctioned and in Schull a 75 per cent State grant of £285,000 has been sanctioned.

This will be the final supplementary. We cannot spend all day on this.

It is a very important area. The Minister gave a figure of £.5 million in relation to Castletownbere. In view of the fact that I got a reply from the Minister last week that no further work is to be carried out in Castletownbere, would the Minister explain what is intended to be done there?

In Castletownbere works are in progress in the servicing and preparation of industrial sites at Dinish Island and a sewerage and disposal scheme is expected to start in 1980. It is expected that there will be an expenditure of £.5 million in 1980. If the Deputy would care to come to see me we can discuss it.

The question related to harbours and piers and not to an industrial site at Dinish Island.

I am sure the people on Dinish Island will consider that an improvement.

I am sure the Minister is well aware there are no people living on Dinish Island.

Is it a fact that the Minister does not know that there are no people living on this island?

I guarantee that Deputy Harte does not even know where the island is.

(Interruptions.)
