Vol. 321 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishery Boards Appointments.

82.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the names of the executive officers appointed to the new regional and central boards.

The chief officer of the Central Fisheries Board and the managers of the seven regional boards have not yet been appointed. The competitions for the filling of these posts are at present being conducted by the Local Appointments Commission.

When is it hoped to have the appointments completed?

The Fisheries Act became law on March 18. The Local Appointments Commission advertised these posts in the national newspapers on March 26 and the closing date was 17 April. While I am not in a position to interfere in the work of the Local Appointments Commission, I should hope that they would make some recommendations soon.

How much money has been allocated towards the setting up of those boards?

This is a separate question.

Is the Deputy talking about salaries?

No. I am talking about over-all money for the boards.

I cannot give the Deputy details of the amount of money that has been allocated for this purpose but I can assure him that sufficient moneys will be made available to cater for the needs of the board.

That is in line with what the Minister for the Environment tells us in relation to the building of houses in County Donegal but we are still short of money for this purpose.

We must move on to the next question.
