The type of home for the elderly which is being built at Morton Street, Clonmel, represents a departure from the standard welfare home. It is a good example of a health board trying new approaches to ensure a more effective and flexible response to the needs of the elderly who do not need institutional care but are unable to live independently at home. It will consist of 26 single and four double bed-sitters with bathroom and kitchenette facilities, plus six single bed-sitters for the more frail elderly attached to the central accommodation and convenient to the supervisor's flat.
I have asked the South-Eastern Health Board for final details of the arrangements proposed and I will communicate them to the Deputy as soon as they are received.
