Vol. 322 No. 2

Written Answers. - Land Commission Policy.

310.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will outline Land Commission policy in relation to the letting of land on the 11 month system; if an auctioneer is employed in this regard; and, if not, why.

The policy of the Land Commission in this matter is to let all lands on their hands, which are not ready for allotment, with a view to deriving revenue to meet the expenses of management. The bulk of lettings are arranged through auctioneers and every effort is made to offer lands in lots of a size suitable to the requirements of local smallholders. Occasionally exceptional cases may arise when a departure from the foregoing general practice is unavoidable.
