asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider the acquisition of light fast patrol vessels in view of the shortages of manpower, the low serviceability of the present Naval Service fleet, and its increased use in in-shore coastal patrol; if not, if his Department have investigated the use of such vessels in other navies; and if he will outline his position in the matter.

The types of vessels used by other navies in operations similar to those undertaken by the Naval Service are constantly being assessed by my Department.
