Vol. 322 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

295.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the irregular payment of social welfare benefit to a person (details supplied) in South West Cork: and whether he will ensure that the payment is made regularly in future.

The person concerned has been claiming disability benefit since 10 September 1979. In the period up to April 1980 he submitted medical certificates at weekly intervals but during the months of May and June 1980 he submitted only one certificate each month. Payment of benefit issued immediately on receipt of the medical certificates. The claim has, however, been reviewed and in view of the nature and duration of his incapacity it has been decided to pay him on a weekly basis in advance of the receipt of medical evidence of incapacity which in future will be required only at monthly intervals. On this basis he has been paid in advance up to 28 June 1980 after which date he will receive payment at weekly intervals.
