In the time available it is not possible to calculate the average annual remuneration of these groups.
The present salary scales, effective from 1 March 1980, are as follows:— (a) Secondary School Teacher: £4,712 (minimum) × 14-£7,594 (maximum): (b) Commandant: £8,395 × 5-£9,275; (c) Superintendent in Garda Síochána: £9,194 × 4-£10,360.
In addition to the salary scale at (a) above, teachers may receive the following allowances in respect of educational qualifications.

Posts of Responsibility Allowances—Allowances for Principals and Vice Principals range from £340 at minimum to £3,408 at maximum. Holders of Grade A and Grade B posts of responsibility receive £897 and £397 respectively. Special functions allowances ranging from £340 to £897 are also paid. A long service increment of £258 is paid, after one year on the maximum of the scale, to teachers who have not obtained a post of responsibility.
In addition to the scale at (c) above Superintendents receive the following rent allowance: Married Officers, £631 per annum; Single Officers, £473.25 per annum.
