Vol. 322 No. 9

Written Answers. - Secondary Schools Financial Concessions.

458.

asked the Minister for Education the cost this year and in a full year of the financial concessions to secondary schools announced by him in his circular of 13 June, 1980.

459.

asked the Minister for Education the net cost to the Exchequer whereby contributions under the Pay-Related Social Insurance Act in relation to secondary schools are met in full by his Department without recoupment from the school authorities as on and from 6 April, 1980; and the net cost to the Exchequer of the full recoupment of the cost of employment of substitute teachers.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 458 and 459 together.

The concession in relation to Pay Related Socal Insurance is estimated to result in additional cost to the State of £1.8 million in 1980. The amount of the additional cost for a full year is estimated at £2.5 million.

Full recoupment by my Department of the cost of substitution, on the basis of current rates, is estimated to result in additional expenditure of £180,000 per annum.
