Vol. 323 No. 5

Written Answers . - South Tipperary Local Services .

324.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money allocated for (a) local authority housing, (b) SDA grants, (c) water and sewerage schemes and (d) roads to South Tipperary County Council for 1980; and the amount by which each allocation falls short of the amounts notified to him by this local authority as its requirement for 1980.

: For (a) the amounts allocated total £1,140,000. This is £951,000 less than the amount sought. As regards (b) separate allocations are not made for house purchase loans but such loans form the major portion of the combined allocations which also relate to the low-rise mortgage scheme, improvement loans and supplementary grants. The estimate of 1980 requirements submitted by the local authority in October 1979 was £1,199,000. Towards this the initial allocation in relation to the first six months was £500,000. For the second half of the year the requirements of local authorities are assessed monthly and allocations made accordingly. The total amount issued to Tipperary South Riding from the local loans fund up to 24 October 1980 was £1,073,000.

With regard to (c) total allocation to date is £728,100 or £250,400 less than the total estimated requirement including supplemental loans of the local authority. An additional allocation will be made to the local authority shortly.

With regard to (d) it is not the practice of local authorities to submit requests for annual allocations. The amounts allocated to Tipperary (SR) County Council in respect of 1980 total £1,459,000.
