Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Garda and Prison Service .
: Particulars of Garda strength in each of the past ten years are given in my reply to written Question No. 348 on 21 October, 1980.
The total number of personnel in the prison service is given in the form of a tabular statement which with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
Details of expenditure from the Garda Síochána Vote and from the Prisons Vote in each year are published in the Annual Appropriation Accounts which are available in the Oireachtas Library, the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1979 have not yet been published but the cost of salaries, wages, allowances and overtime in that year was £69,099,639 for the Garda Síochána and £8,750,462 for the Prison Service personnel.
The tabulation, under, sets out the total number of personnel in the Prison Service on 31 December each year for the past ten years.
