Vol. 323 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - County Dublin Garda Station .

2.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will respond positively to a request from the Dublin County Council for a new Garda station to serve the Kilmacud / Mount Merrion / Stillorgan area of County Dublin.

: The Garda authorities consider that the provision of a station in Kilmacud / Mount Merrion / Stillorgan would not be warranted at present and that the existing arrangements whereby the area is served from Blackrock and Dundrum stations make the best use of available police resources. The policing arrangements for the area will, however, be kept under review.

Additional Garda patrols have been introduced in Dublin and in other major cities and these patrols, which are aimed at reducing crime and vandalism, are now operating in the Kilmacud/Mount Merrion/Stillorgan area. In addition, the question of assigning extra gardaí to Blackrock and Dundrum stations will be considered according as the additional manpower at present being recruited becomes available for assignment to the various centres.

: Could the Minister say what the extra manpower involved in these extra patrols he has identified as operating in these areas consists of? How many extra men are working in this area?

: On the information available that area has a very low crime rate and any crime committed was commited by people who came from other areas. At the moment a manpower deployment study team are examining the effects of police services. When that is available the question of additional staff requirements for the areas will be looked at.

: The answer is "none".

: That is not so.
