Vol. 323 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Gaming and Lotteries Acts .

3.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has any proposals for (a) the introduction of a new Gaming and Lotteries Act, or (b) the amendment of the relevant Acts; if he has had a submission from the Irish Amusement Trades Association; and if he will meet a deputation from the association to discuss the points they put forward.

: I have received various proposals for the amendment of the Gaming and Lotteries Acts but, while I am considering all these proposals I am not yet in a position to say what decisions will be taken.

I have had a submission from the Irish Amusement Trades Association and the Minister or I will be glad to meet a deputation from this association to discuss their proposals.

: Would the Minister agree to give this matter very urgent consideration because, as he is undoubtedly aware, there are widespread abuses in this area particularly affecting young people? These abuses are deplored by the reputable members of the association, as they are by everybody else. I ask the Minister to give this matter as high a priority as possible.

: I will bear in mind what the Deputy said.
