Vol. 323 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Loughlinstown (Dublin) AnCO Centre .

16.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will approach AnCO in relation to their proposed new centre in Loughlinstown to suggest that full-time and part-time training and retraining courses for women be provided there in view of the considerable demand from women workers who are anxious for such part-time retraining to enable them to reenter the labour force, and to enable such persons who are registered for, and seeking, full-time employment to participate in such part-time training courses.

: It is the intention of AnCO to provide a comprehensive range of adult and apprentice training courses to cater for the training needs of both women and men at the Loughlinstown training centre. Courses will also be provided to cater specifically for women who have been out of the labour force for some time and are anxious to return to paid employment. In addition AnCO has the flexibility to respond to the particular training-retraining requirements of local communities through providing instruction in external facilities where spare capacity exists. Part-time return to work courses are already being provided by AnCO in certain locations; the demand for these training services is being carefully analysed at present and the level of resources currently allocated to them will, if necessary, be reviewed as a result of this analysis.

: I thank the Minister for his reply. Is there any indication in his brief when the Loughlinstown AnCO training scheme will commence?

: As I have said the intention is that work will commence in 1981.
