Vol. 323 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Bray Multi-denominational School .

41.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the provision of a multi-denominational school for Bray, County Wicklow.

42.

asked the Minister for Education the steps he has taken to ensure the establishment of the multi-denominational primary school in Bray, County Wicklow; and if he will explain the delay in sanctioning such a school.

: With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 41 and 42 together.

The proposal made to me in relation to the establishment of a multi-denominational school in Bray, County Wicklow, has been under examination in my Department.

My Department have written to the secretary of the Bray School Project Association in relation to temporary accommodation in which it was proposed to start the school and have indicated that they do not find these proposed premises suitable for primary school purposes even on a temporary basis. A further proposal from the association in this regard must, accordingly, be awaited.

: In view of the long delay in relation to the provision of a multi-denominational primary school in Bray, what steps can the Minister now take to ensure that such a school is established and operable for the beginning of the next school year?

: My officials have been instructed to facilitate the people concerned in every possible way. One of the big difficulties is finding suitable premises, as I have indicated in my reply.

: Can I have an assurance from the Minister that there will not be any undue delay on his part and that he will give full support to the establishment of the school?

: That is true.
