Vol. 323 No. 9

Written Answers . - School Transport .

65.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that there are five Protestant children in the parish of Skreen, County Sligo, receiving their post-primary education at Sligo grammar school and that as a result of withdrawing school transport these children now have no transport except the service bus from Ballina to Sligo as a result of which they miss two classes every morning; if, under those exceptional circumstances, he will restore school transport for mornings only, as the children can return home on the evening service bus; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: As the number of eligible children offering for transport from the Skreen area to Sligo post-primary centre fell below the required minimum, the Department had no option but to withdraw the special service after the summer term, 1980. There is not a sufficient number of such eligible children in the locality concerned at present to warrant the restoration of the service.
