Vol. 324 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Galway Social Welfare Payments.

335.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason unemployment assistance is not being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway for the past eight weeks.

Payment of unemployment assistance was restored to the person concerned. Payment had been suspended for a period during which certain investigations were being carried out regarding the level of the person's income.

When the investigations were completed, the person's means assessment was increased and payment was restored, but at a reduced rate of entitlement. All arrears of unemployment assistance due to the person concerned have been paid.

336.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason payment of disability benefit has been ceased to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit from 6 March 1972 to 27 September 1980. Payment was disallowed after that date following his examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that he was capable of work.

He has appealed against the decision to disallow payment and in connection with his appeal arrangements have been made to have him examined on 19 November 1980 by a different medical referee. His entitlement to benefit will be reviewed in the light of the medical referee's report following the examination.

337.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when an old-age pension will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

Difficulties have been experienced in obtaining information on the disposal of capital in this case. The social welfare officer expects, however, to be able to make a recommendation to the local pension committee as soon as the necessary information is furnished to him.

338.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason widow's pension is not being paid at full rate to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person concerned was awarded a widow's non-contributory pension at a reduced rate with effect from 29 August 1980 in accordance with the means assessed on the value of a farm. The widow appealed the decision and the case has been referred to an appeals officer. The appeals officer's decision will be notified to her as soon as it is available.
